Pete has been a professional musician since 1971, playing at festivals concerts, clubs, dances and schools throughout Britain and he has performed at the various folk song and dance venues in and around Guildford since 1973. He has been a frequent guest at the Music Institute and we’re delighted to welcome him back. During the ‘70s Pete toured and recorded with Chris Coe, was a member of the legendary ceilidh “supergroup” The New Victory Band and, with Nic Jones, Tony Rose and, again, Chris Coe he was a member of Bandoggs. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s he toured and recorded with Red Shift but since 1985 he’s mainly worked as a soloist and earned an enviable reputation. Pete has one of the finest voices on the folk scene, is an accomplished musician (stringed and squeezebox instruments) and a fine step dancer to boot. He is also a researcher of folk song and has a rich and varied repertoire of material from around Britain in general and the midlands in particular.

For many Christmas is not Christmas without a performance of Martyn Wyndham-Read’s perennially favourite show Maypoles To Mistletoe and it’s folk-club-sized successor Mistletoe Garland and we’re delighted to welcome it back to the Assembly Room once again this year. As before Martyn will be joined by all your favourite resident singers plus a Morris Dancer or two to lead the audience through a celebration of the seasons in music, words, dance and song. The show will take place on Friday 15th December at 7:40pm. As those of you who have returned to the club will know our post-pandemic seating arrangements have reduced the room's capacity significantly and as the audience will have to be confined to the main body of the room, due to the size of the cast, ticket numbers will be restricted.
